Tertiary Groups

Borland Lodge is used by universities and other tertiary education providers. Regular geology, geography, ecology and botany field courses are held at Borland Lodge because it is a convenient, comfortable and affordable base from which to venture afield.

The large indoor space is ideal for lectures, tutorial groups and laboratory work. Southern Institute of Technology and College of Education students are annual visitors to Borland.  Overseas university groups pass through as they tour the country studying New Zealand plants, birds and rocks. Tourism students stay at the lodge and explore the visitor potential of Fiordland and Western Southland.

Special Interest Groups

Special interest groups make good use of Borland Lodge. The clear night skies well away from city lights are appreciated by astronomers. The dramatic mountains, lake, rivers and beech forest draw painters and photographers alike who find Borland Lodge a comfortable and attractive base.

Borland Lodge hosts retreats, Craft weekends, Conferences and Training courses. Choral Groups, Yoga, Art weekends,Outdoor First Aid, Back-Country Rescue courses and SAR training have been run successfully from the Lodge.
